New Video Shows Illinois Community Lost to 2019 Flood
There is a new look at an Illinois community that was forced to abandoned their homes suddenly due to a massive flood in 2019. Many of the structures remain, but the family's lives were changed forever as a new urban exploration shows.
Dark Exploration Films on YouTube just dropped a video a few days ago of their adventure near East Cape Girardeau, Illinois which was the site of a terrible flood in 2019. It's located right across the river from Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The National Weather Service says the flood of 2019 was the 5th highest crest on record for Cape Girardeau at 46.36 feet.
The flood of 2019 rose above flood stage on March 12, 2019 and didn't fall back below those limits until August 4, 2019. Families had to abandon their properties and few returned. This new urban exploration includes video that shows how decay has taken over many of the properties that were flooded out that year.
As they showed in their video, there are still signs of the life that many families had there including some items inside what used to be the vacation properities.
If you don't already follow Dark Exploration Films on YouTube, I recommend them. They have a policy to leave all the places they explore in the same state they found it without disturbing the history there. When it comes to urban exploration, that's the most ethical approach you can have to respect the memories that these families had to leave behind.
