Illinois Witness Sees Weird Flash, Then Smartphone Suddenly Dies

I've heard a lot of stories about odd things witnesses have claimed to see in the sky over Illinois, but this experience might be the strangest of them all. Someone in a rural Illinois town was sky-watching one night recently when they saw an odd circular flash in the sky and then realized their smartphone battery had suddenly drained.

This is the newest report to the National UFO Reporting Center from Illinois. According to the eyewitness story shared, it occurred just after midnight during the early morning hours of August 14, 2026 near Gardner Illinois. If you're not familiar with Gardner, it's a small town located almost halfway between Bloomington and Chicago. Here's a snippet of the exact words of what this person saw:

"Perfectly circular flash, then remained a dark circle. It shrunk until it was gone like it backed out of the atmosphere. It was just a flash. Like a camera. Way brighter than the rest of the lightning, and never produced thunder...So I looked back, and it shrunk until it was gone...After disappearing I noticed the battery in my cell phone had gone from 55% to 10%."

Whatever this person saw almost acted like a mini-electromagnetic pulse event. If that had occurred, everyone in that region would have experienced failure of electronics. Since many charge their devices while they sleep, is it possible this did happen, but the eyewitness was the only one to report it? I've had strange experiences where I think I've charged my phone all night only to realize it's low battery in the morning. I always assume that I just didn't put it on the charger correctly, but what if this type of phenomena happens more often than we think?

By definition, this Illinois report remains in the realm of an unidentified aerial phenomena. Until some authorities can explain what happened, the origin of this weird sky flash will remain a mystery.
