Hannibal, Monroe City, Bowling Green Win District Titles Friday

It was District Championship night for Missouri high school football Friday night.

The news was good for the Pirates, Panthers, Bobcats and Raiders, while the season came to a disappointing end for the Cougars and two sets of Tigers.

The Hannibal Pirates continue to roll, as they knocked off the Jefferson City Jays for the second time this season, this time by a 47-0 score. The Pirates will be back at Porter Stadium Saturday for a Class 4 state quarterfinal match up with West Plains.

In Class 1, the Monroe City Panthers improved their record to 11-1 with a 53-0 drubbing of Mark Twain. The Tigers otherwise outstanding season ends with a 10-2 record. The Panthers travel to Hayti next Saturday.

In Class 2, the Maryville Spoofhounds win their ninth district title in ten years, defeating the Macon Tigers 33-6. Maryville moves on to host Richmond Saturday.

There were a couple of nail-biters among area matchups Friday night.

In Class 1, a standout season for the Highland Cougars came to an abrupt end, as Marceline hung on for a 36-30 victory. The Cougars' final record of 8-4 is their best in a number of years. Marceline will be at Fayette Saturday

In Class 2, the breakout season for the Bowling Green Bobcats continues, as they won the battle of the unbeatens, 42-30 over Hallsville. The Bobcats quarterfinal matchup is at Lafayette County Saturday.

And, in 8-Man District semifinal action, North Shelby stays undefeated with a 66-14 win over Northwest Hughesville. The Raiders will play the winner of Knox County and St. Paul Lutheran Saturday afternoon.
