A lot can happen in the span of just a month. There are reports that 9 Missouri banks have filed closure notices with the state in just the past 30 days alone.

I find this stunning and a bit disturbing. Were you aware of a mass of bank closings that have happened already in 2025? I saw a report by the Daily Mail which lists all of the banks that have filed closure notices with ruling authorities just since January 13, 2025. Here are the banks in Missouri on their list:

  • U.S. Bank NA BOWLING GREEN MO 317 WEST MAIN STREET
  • U.S. Bank NA MEMPHIS MO 231 SOUTH MARKET
  • U.S. Bank NA MEXICO MO 100 N WESTERN ST
  • U.S. Bank NA WILLOW SPRINGS MO 207 EAST THIRD
  • U.S. Bank NA BALLWIN MO 15215 MANCHESTER ROAD
  • U.S. Bank NA POTOSI MO 707 EAST HIGH STREET
  • U.S. Bank NA Cape Cirardeau MO 975 Normal Avenue
  • U.S. Bank NA KIRKSVILLE MO 202 EAST MCPHERSON
  • U.S. Bank NA SALEM MO 600 HIGHWAY 32 EAST

Counting all of the bank locations in America, there have been more than 100 that now have firm plans to close their doors imminently. The report says that US Bank is in the process of streamlining their locations to be more efficient.

While a rash of bank closures sounds alarming, I have to admit that I rarely ever go to a brick and mortar bank anymore. With a vast majority of financial transactions handled online, there's rarely a need to go into a bank for anything unless you're closing a loan and now there are options for that online in some places.

This is another indication of how digital lifestyles and habits are transforming the traditional businesses many of us grew up with. The fact that so many Missouri banks are closing really shouldn't surprise us I suppose.
