One doesn't need to travel too far in Quincy to realize that this is a town with a tremendous amount of German heritage.  In honor of that, this weekend will be filled with German music, food and beer as the 2019 edition of Germanfest will be held this Friday and Saturday night in Quincy's South Park. The event is presented by Quincy's Sister City Commission and will feature live music from three different bands. The local Heidelburg German Band, the Waterloo German Band and Quincy's Raised on Radio will perform during the event.

Plus Kinderplatz children's activities (from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.) will also be available for the kids. You need to bring your lawn chairs, blankets and a large appetite both Friday and Saturday.  Germanfest runs from 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. both days.

Germanfest, as it is known now, was formerly known as Strassenfest. Strassenfest was established by the Rotary Club of Quincy back in 1970 and was held yearly in the State and 8th area. The event eventually was presented by the German Village Society who renamed the event Germanfest.

The German Village Society then disbanded which led to the event's takeover by the Quincy Sister City Commission who eventually moved the German tradition to South Park where it has been held for several years.
