We are officially one year into the COVID-19 pandemic, we have come a long way with the vaccinations, and social distancing, but even that couldn't save one of our favorite Quincy traditions from coming back in 2021, Germanfest has been canceled again.
According to an article in the Herald-Whig (to see the full article click here!) the Germanfest organizers have canceled the event for the second straight year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the event was scheduled for June of this year. In the article they say...
"The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the cancellation of Quincy’s annual Germanfest for the second straight year...the decision was made in January. Although COVID-related restrictions have loosened since then, vendors should have been booked at least two months ago to make the event happen...During its last meeting on Thursday, the committee had further discussions about the cancellation and how to promote the event for next year."

It is especially hard for events in the winter/spring/early summer to get back up and going with the vaccine still not being available to the general public. I hope this isn't a trend with other events to come where they have to cancel due to the fact they were not able to book vendors early enough in advance. Either way we are certainly sad to see it canceled but are very excited to celebrate Germanfest in 2022!
