Missouri has earthquakes nearly all the time. (Thanks, New Madrid Fault) Most are nothing to worry about and this would likely fit into that category except for the location. It was confirmed right across from a tiny Missouri airport late Tuesday night.

As I was checking the USGS earthquake site this morning, I saw something I did not see yesterday. It was a rather small earthquake near Marston, Missouri.

What's the big deal about a barely-felt quake near Marston, Missouri?

The answer is there is no big deal, but it's the location I find interesting. Zooming in on the USGS epicenter page, you'll see the quake was centered in a farm field right next door to a tiny Missouri airport north of Marston.

The quake was confirmed by the USGS to have occurred at 10:06pm Tuesday night, April 8, 2025. This small Missouri quake reminded me of some scenes from the recent "Continental Split" disaster movie on Tubi where the New Madrid Fault goes crazy.

If there's a sequel, perhaps they'll consider adding a scene where the Missouri earth splits in half while a plane is trying to land at a rural airport. Now, they have some science to base that premise on. You are welcome, film makers.
