Deciding which bakery is better than another depends on many factors including what type of baked goods you're looking for. Pastry? Bread? All of the above? Missouri has thousands of bakeries across the state, but there are 3 that have the highest online ratings above all others.

When looking for the highest-rated bakery in Missouri, I had a specific criteria. Yes, I obviously was looking for the places with the most glowing reviews, but the number of reviews matters, too. A bakery might have a perfect 5-star rating, but only have a dozen reviews. That's a good start, but hardly a resounding endorsement that should rank it above other bakeries. I queried the online reviews and asked for the highest-rated Missouri bakeries with at least 500 reviews. By that criteria, here are the 3 highest-rated in the state.

I have not sampled any baked goods from any of these top 3 Missouri bakeries, but one of my most vivid childhood memories was a place my dad used to take me to when I was a kid. It was called The Pastry Box in Hannibal, Missouri. As I recall, it opened in 1960 and was open for 30 years until the owner retired. I can still remember the smell of donuts that was overwhelming (in a great way) as soon as you walked in the door. Their cinnamon twists were amazing. That's why when you find a great local bakery, you need to support it so the mom and pop places can survive. No offense intended to the big box stores, but I'll take a local non-chain Missouri bakery over the big boys anytime.
