10 Missouri Places Where You’re Most at Risk of Assault
I've seen enough breakdowns of violent crime in Missouri that are based on just one calendar year or recent trends. I decided to do a deep dive into the past 5 years of police data to determine the places in Missouri where you're more at risk of being a victim of assault.
I didn't want to base any conclusions on third-party data which is why I queried the Missouri State Highway Patrol Criminal Justice Information Services Crime in Missouri Reporting System. I searched the total number of assaults from 2021 through 2025 with the calculation (2021–2025 assault total ÷ 5 ÷ 2020 Census population) × 100,000 to find the average number of assaults annually. With all of those numbers crunched, here are the top 10 Missouri places with the biggest risk of assault over the past 5 years.

It's important to understand that just because a city or town ends up on this list doesn't mean the entire city is dangerous. That's never the case. Even among the cities with the highest number of assaults like St. Louis, Kansas City and Springfield, there are relatively small pockets of dangerous areas while suburbs can have a very safe and high quality of living. All that being said, it's best to have situational awareness if you're visiting or call any of these Missouri places home. You don't want to be the next victim.
