The skies over Missouri became busy and interesting Thursday as I had numerous reports of "doomsday planes" over the state and flight radar data confirms it was true.

Special thanks to my friend John who first alerted me to this interesting aerial activity over Missouri today. According to the Flight Radar 24 app, there were at least 3 different varieties of "doomsday planes" overhead today.

What is a "doomsday plane" anyway?

The US Air Force has several different types of planes designed to be in the air that allows the government to maintain command and control of vital military assets in the event of an enemy attack or natural catastrophe. There were 3 planes today that fall into that category. I'll be specific.

The most interesting to me was the presence of Boeing 747-E4B which is the most important "doomsday plane" specially designed to withstand impacts and even EMP blasts that would cause massive failure of electronic devices. According to Flight Radar 24, this huge aircraft was over east-central Missouri Thursday afternoon.

That was not the only one. There was also a Boeing P-8A Poseidon which Wikipedia says is "a highly advanced, long-range maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft developed for the U.S. Navy and military allies". One of these planes was spotted not far from Rolla, Missouri today.

But wait, there's more

There was a US military plane I haven't spotted over Missouri in a long time. This is a Learjet C-21A which is a military variant of the civilian Learjet 35A which provides "rapid transport of passengers, cargo, and distinguished visitors". It can also be used for "emergency aeromedical evacuations", but let's not jump to conclusions. It was near Poplar Bluff, Missouri today headed southwest.

Let's be clear that even with 3 "doomsday planes" over Missouri, that does not necessarily mean that there's a national emergency imminent. It's only interesting that all 3 would be over Missouri almost simultaneously.
