Don’t Miss the Air Force Thunderbirds or Navy Blue Angels
Two years ago I wrote a scathing article criticizing the government for cancelling all of the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy Blue Angels performances in 2013. Well, after that year off due to government cutbacks, the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy Blue Angels resumed their high flying acrobatic shows all over the United States last year and are ready again this year.
The Thunderbirds will hold 71 shows this year thrilling spectators in 39 locations. The closest location to this area will be at Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster, Missouri (west of Sedalia) when the Thunderbirds will do their show on June 13 and June 14. They will also be performing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 25 and 26. This will be the 62nd year for the Air Force Thunderbird's performances.
Meanwhile, the Navy Blue Angels, in their 69th year of performing, will also resume flying this year with 65 shows scheduled at 35 locations. The Blue Angels are scheduled to perform in Davenport, Iowa on May 9 and 10 at the Quad City Air Show. The Blue Angels will also be at the Rockford, Illinois Air-Fest on June 6 and 7, the Chicago Air and Water Show on August 15 and 16 and the Kansas City Aviation Expo on August 22 and 23.
Having lived near Air Force Bases a good deal of my life, I probably have seen some 30 or so shows in my lifetime and won’t turn down the chance to see another. If you have never seen one of these performances, I strongly encourage you to attend one in the near future. It is a show you and your children will remember for a lifetime.
