If you're a sky-watcher, you know Missouri is a great place to check out the stars since there are ample places to escape the lights of the cities. Someone in mid-Missouri recently spotted something odd as they were looking toward the belt of Orion. A strange object without navigational lights was moving north and south near that constellation.

During the evening hours of March 8, 2026 just after 8pm local time, someone in Columbia, Missouri told the National UFO Reporting Center that they noticed something odd near the Orion constellation. Here are their exact words of what they saw:

"Looking at the Orion's Belt, when we noticed a very faint object moving from S to N then going back N to S. No navigation lights. Taking out the trash, looked at Orion's Belt when I barely noticed the "object" on the left side of Orion's Belt from my perspective."

Whenever I hear someone say they see strange lights moving across the sky, I normally assume they're seeing Starlink satellites. However, that would not explain what this person near Columbia, Missouri saw since regular satellites don't change direction. The Starlink satellites, in particular, just cross the sky in a straight line. An object moving south to north and then back is something else entirely. It doesn't mean it's a craft with little green men, but it is odd to see something that high in the sky near Orion. By definition, this person in Columbia saw an unidentified flying object. The truth of what it is remains to be seen.
