Here's one of those what-if scenarios you hope you never live to see. China has made some threats against the United States over Taiwan including nuclear retaliation. What if only one of those ICBM's were used against St. Louis, Missouri? A simulation map shows the devastation is likely greater than you think.

I saw a recent headline where China bluffed (or so all of us hope) a nuclear strike against America if we interfered with their proposed takeover of Taiwan. That's likely just posturing between superpowers, but what if it weren't? St. Louis is one of those big population bases that would be part of any first-strike strategy and there's a way to see what would happen if threats become actions.

The current most common nuclear-capable ICBM possessed by China is the Dong-Feng 5 which features a 5 megaton warhead. Nuke Map shared a simulation of what would happen if just one were targeted at St. Louis. The innermost circle is the fireball.

The next ring is the immediate blast radius which would shake nearly all of the metro St. Louis metro.

This third ring represents the area where 100% of the residents would have at least third-degree burns.

Here is the fatality and injury estimate from just one Chinese ICBM hitting St. Louis.

Just over one million either killed or injured in St. Louis by just one Chinese missile. Consider the fact that this is a scenario that would almost certainly never happen. If an attack like this were to take place, there would be hundreds of ICBM's used and not just one. The other possibility is the superpower nations never allow this insane doomsday to ever take place.
