It's a real Missouri treasure hunt and someone will walk away with $32,000 in gems including a diamond that are hidden somewhere in Boone County thanks to the historical society there.

I saw the Columbia Missourian share the exciting story of what the Boone County, Missouri Historical Society is doing to celebrate 100 years of existence. It's like National Treasure except this treasure isn't in the movies. It's real and thanks to Buchroeders Jewelers, a huge cache of gems is awaiting someone.

The event is called Booneanza and it's one of the more unique treasure hunts you'll ever see. It's important to note that you can't hunt for this treasure for free. Well, I suppose you can, but you'll get no clues. The cost is $100 per team and you can sign up on their official website. They will begin giving clues to individuals and/or teams that have signed up on July 13, 2024.

They say "knowing a bit of local history will serve you well, as will good internet sleuthing skills...expect riddles, codes, trivia and the occasional bit of misdirection". Interesting.

The first one to find the treasure really will win a treasure including "diamonds, gems, rare coins" worth in excess of $30,000...and it's hidden somewhere in Boone County, Missouri right now.

There is a helpful FAQ page if you need more details. Perhaps you and/or your team will be the ones to walk away with one of the bigger treasures in Missouri history.
