As the weather warms, I start thinking about sitting next to "My Rock" during Blues in the District in Washington Park. The first performance of the year in what has become a Quincy tradition will be on June 13 .

On that date Rockin' Jake will take to the stage to entertain the mass of people in the park. Jake, one of the premiere harmonica players around, was here last year and returns to entertain blues fans this year.

On June 27, Quincy's own The King Bees will be the scheduled act for the night. That will be part of the Mid Summer Arts Faire.

Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials from Chicago will be the schedule artist for July 11.  This group has played for 24 consecutive years and will be ready to go that night.

On July 25 Chicago Rhythm & Blues Kings perform under the lights with their soul-steeped brand of rhythm and blues.

The Blues in the District continues on August 8 when Marquise Knox performs. Marquise was born and raised in St. Louis and handles his guitar with the best of them. A guitar he learned to play from his grandmother.

Samantha Fish is scheduled to play August 22 at Washington Park. Samantha has been tearing up the Kansas City blues scene for the past couple of years.  Samantha was the winner of the "Best New Artist Debut" in 2012 and will be ready to get people dancing and clapping in August.

The season, which goes by way to fast, wraps up on September 12 when David Gerald visits Quincy. Gerald grew up listening to the sound of blues in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan.

Blues in the District is now a summer tradition in Quincy. So get ready to bring your lawn chairs, your favorite beverage and snacks and enjoy seven wonderful  nights of free blues music complements of the Historic Quincy Business District and their sponsors.  See you at Washington Park, but remember, the area around "My Rock" is reserved.
