Yes, You Really Need to Ride this Miniature Train in Moberly, MO
When you have something neat in your own backyard, it's easy to take it for granted and forget about it. I have to admit that's been the case for me and a miniature train in Moberly, Missouri that you really need to ride at some point in your life.
Thank you to Only In Your State for this reminder. It's the Magic City Line Mini-train in Moberly, Missouri and it is a completely unique experience. This video from way back when does a good job telling part of the story about the train enthusiasts that made this special machine happen 15 years ago.
I have been a fan of big iron horses since I was a kid and had forgotten about this most excellent train that the family can enjoy. The official Magic City Line Mini-train website gives details on what it takes to do this experience yourself:
The train operates every Sunday from April thru October. Rides are $2.50 each for children and adults, babies ride free with adult. Rides start at 1PM with the last train departing the station at 4:15PM. Special group rides are available by appointment for 25 or more riders starting at $80.
I'd argue that $10 for a family of 4 is a massive bargain. The fact is that if you're thinking "that's an amazing idea", you're running out of time this year as the train season ends at the end of October. If you love trains as much as me and my kids do, you really need to remember it's practically in our backyard here.
