An effort is underway to preserve a building that is a part of Missouri railroad history. Its beginnings span more than 120 years in the heart of the state at what used to be a key transportation hub.

I just came across this share on the Missouri sub-Reddit about an effort to save Katy Station in Columbia, Missouri

A historic train station that used to serve what is now the Katy Trail is in danger of demolition. Considering helping us save it

The Save Katy Station website adds some more details of what this group's plan is to save this historic building. Here's what they said:

A) The best case scenario is if The Katy becomes available to a buyer (or buyers) who will preserve it in its original location.

B) If that’s not possible, the station could be moved to a nearby location, ideally near or along The MKT Trail.

The perception is that because Katy Station is on the National Register of Historic Places that it would be spared demolition, but that's not true. The property owner is not required to keep the building standing just because of that status. The group isn't accepting donations right now according to their site, but they're open to options. I did see an update this week that the property is under contract so hopefully that's a good thing.
