Good Chance a Rare Kind of Winter Storm to Hit Missouri on Friday
This isn't the typical path for a winter storm in the first month of the year, but it does appear that a rare kind of winter storm will cause problems for at least part if not all of Missouri this Friday.
I saw this new update today by Ryan Hall who is one of YouTube's most popular weather personalities. I follow Ryan, too, because I appreciate that he is not a sensational person that's always looking for outrageous weather predictions just to get attention. He's just shared what the newest runs of the GFS computer model show for Friday, January 10. It appears that southern Missouri could get plowed (sorry for the snow pun) by more winter weather.
Here's a map showing the percentage chance that a place will see more than 6 inches of snow. Notice that the bottom third of Missouri is firmly in the decent chance for this to happen.
It's worth mentioning that ALL of Missouri is likely to see something out of this system that will move across the state Friday including an inch or two (or maybe 4) even in the northern parts of the state. If I had to guess, it will not amount to much north of I-70.
We were warned that the jet stream patterns were changing as we moved into 2025 which would make this assembly line of winter storm systems likely to follow one after another across the country and that's what's happening right now. Combine that with bitter cold for the next week and you get a recipe for weather we need to be watchful for. I hate when I hear the word "rare" used for winter weather systems.
