Which Surprising Nation Owns Missouri Farmland That’s Not China?
I would not have believed this if I had not seen proof. Bet you'll never guess which nation owns Missouri farmland that's not China? Prepare to be surprised, too.
I'm not going to get into the conspiracy theory world of other nations trying to take over Missouri by buying up farmland. I'll leave that conversation for another day, but I will share something new that 24/7 Wall St shared about foreign countries that own American farm acreage.
Everyone and their dog in Missouri knows China has a presence in the state with farmland they've bought (although word is the state is trying to take it away from them as part of that $24 billion dollar lawsuit). It's the other nation that owns Missouri land that truly surprised me.
What nation not named China owns Missouri farmland?
Answer - New Zealand
New Zealand owns farmland in TWO Missouri counties - Vernon and Barry counties. The study says that New Zealand owns 18,671 acres of farmland in the Midwest and Missouri makes up a big part of that. What does the 6th largest island country in the world want with Missouri farms? I don't know for a fact since I don't currently have any friends in New Zealand (but am open to requests) that it's good ole money.
Now, if you see vehicles with New Zealand license plates in Missouri, you'll know why.
