Missouri Wins $24 Billion from China – May Seize Farmland Soon
Missouri just won a historic lawsuit against China where the state was awarded more than $24 billion dollars. Missouri's attorney general says the state will collect every penny and that may include seizing farmland owned by China within the state.
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey issued a press release detailing the states plans to "collect every penny" of a $24 billion dollar lawsuit award. This is six times larger than any other Missouri lawsuit award in history. Here's the attorney general's statement as I've highlighted the interesting note at the end of it.
“This is a landmark victory for Missouri and the United States in the fight to hold China accountable for unleashing COVID-19 on the world,” said Attorney General Bailey. “China refused to show up to court, but that doesn’t mean they get away with causing untold suffering and economic devastation. We intend to collect every penny by seizing Chinese-owned assets, including Missouri farmland.”
How much farmland does China own in Missouri?
KOMU reported that China owns 42,596 acres of Missouri farmland which is double what the next highest foreign-country owned total is which is Canada at just over 18,000 acres.
The Missouri attorney general says the state may ask for federal help in collecting what China owes them. You can see the full judgement for yourself as we wait to see how Missouri will get its hands on such a mammoth amount of wealth.
