Watch Legendary Steam Train the ‘Big Boy’ Roll Through Missouri
It's one of the most famous steam trains in America and it's back on the rails. New video shares show the Union Pacific 'Big Boy' as it rolled through Missouri recently.
The 'Big Boy' has quite a rich train history. I should say 'Big Boys' since there are actually many of them. As their official website shares, Union Pacific deployed a total of 25 Big Boys beginning in 1941. These classic trains operated from 1941 to 1961, but have now been back from retirement.
One of the 'Big Boy' trains just rolled through St. Louis. According to the Union Pacific steam schedule, this 'Big Boy' will travel all the way across Missouri this week.
Around 7 years ago, Union Pacific began a project in an attempt to bring the 'Big Boys' back to life - so to speak.
If you'd like to see the 'Big Boy' for yourself, Union Pacific has shared a map showing the trail of this current tour.
My dad and I always enjoyed seeing trains whenever we could. As I got older, that is a joy I have passed along to my sons. It's not often you get to see classic trains from this era. The fact that the 'Big Boy' continues the iron horse tradition puts a smile on my face and maybe will for you also.
By the way, if you do love trains, you owe it to yourself to ride the narrow gauge railroad between Durango and Silverton, Colorado at least once in your life.
