Train From California to Illinois Will Be Faster Than Trucks
I am a lifelong fan of trains yet I have a family that's full of truck drivers which is why I'm conflicted about a new train service that will transport goods from California to Illinois allegedly faster than trucks can manage the task.
I first saw this interesting transportation line shared by CDL Life. It said that there is a new "truck competitive" service from southern California to Chicago, Illinois. The press release by Business Wire adds more juicy details into what could be a revival of goods being transported by train. It would begin its route at this train terminal in Fontana, California.
Goods would be transported to this terminal in Chicago.
The claim says "customers will experience up to 20% faster intermodal service compared to current industry offerings between these key locations, with three days' transit".
Can a train really transport goods faster than semi-trucks?
When you factor in rising gasoline and insurance prices that truckers face, it's not impossible to think that an efficient train system could at least provide an alternative. Keep in mind that this is a very specific line from California to Illinois, but if this new service is successful, expect it to be modeled for more locations across the country.
