Walt Disney’s Hometown Is Close To The Tri-States
Driving to and from college on Highway 36, I would come across Marceline, a small town right in the middle of Missouri. And while it might be hard to believe, Marceline has one of the best museums in the Midwest (and you might not even know about it).
Marceline, Missouri may sound a little familiar if you're a big Disney fan. It is the childhood hometown of none other than Walt Disney himself. If you want to know more about how the famous mouse was created, or you are just interested in the life of Walt Disney, this is your first stop in learning.
Marceline is about an hour and a half drive from Quincy (much closer and cheaper than Disney World/Land). The museum is housed in an old train stop--the same train stop that Walt Disney used when he first arrived to Missouri.
You can learn more about Walt's childhood with several displays and artifacts that tell the story of his life and how he became one of the most famous people in the world. The Walt Disney Hometown Museum is home to family letters, a Mickey Mouse section, and shows a special movie of Walt and his brother Roy. Tickets for the museum are just ten bucks, so not bad for a day of fun and educational day for the entire family.
Though I've passed through Marceline many times, I have never stopped to experience the museum. I will be taking vacation in a few weeks, so I might finally take time out and take the girls to see where all the magic started.
