After referring to an "unprecedented business landscape", UPS is offering drivers in Missouri an option. They can receive a hefty payout if they're willing to submit their resignation.

I first saw this stunning report shared by transport industry website CDL Life. This is confirmed by a statement shared on the UPS corporate page. It's entitled "UPS Announces U.S. Driver Voluntary Program" and details what they're offering their full-time drivers. Here are two key elements of this buyout offer with the exact words from UPS:

  • The voluntary offer provides $1,800 per year of service at UPS, with a minimum payout of $10,000. All years of service will be honored.
  • The financial package available through our Driver Voluntary Separation Program is in addition to any earned retirement benefits, including pension and healthcare.

UPS said these benefits are in addition to any retirement or pension drivers have already earned. They also emphasized they will honor the agreement they made with the Teamsters union in 2023. Based on a share by the Teamsters on social media, they are not pleased with what UPS is trying to do.

According to numbers reported by The Springfield News-Leader, there are currently 1,514 UPS drivers in Missouri. The UPS statement says that drivers have until July 31, 2025 to submit an application for this resignation program. It's unclear as of this writing how many in Missouri are willing to accept what UPS is offering. Stay tuned.
