One of the major features of the restructuring of UPS was a driver buyout plan. There eventually were multiple offers to drivers in an effort to eliminate 30,000 jobs. A new report says that UPS is now abandoning the driver buyout offer in both Missouri and Illinois.

I came across this new report just shared today by CDL Life. It says that the buyout program that UPS offered its drivers last year that was expanded this year is now null and void in 13 states including Missouri and Illinois. The plan eventually became a lump sum offer of $150,000 to drivers who would resign voluntarily and it did not matter how long they had worked for the company. They shared a link to a report from US News & World Report that said the offer to drivers has been withdrawn in states located in the central part of the country.

Why has the UPS buyout been eliminated in Missouri, Illinois and 11 other states?

The reports say that the Teamsters filed an emergency restraining order against UPS saying that the buyout offer direct to drivers violated the need to restructure contract agreements with the union. The bottom line as the litigation and negotiations continue is that UPS drivers in Missouri and Illinois are now not able to take advantage of the lump sum offer. Let's hope all parties involved can come to a satisfactory resolution.
