I did not know there are two different Farmer's Almanac. The new one thinks the upcoming winter for Missouri and Illinois will be horrific. The other one is now predicting that our winter really won't be so bad.

As we shared a few weeks ago, the "new" Farmer's Almanac predicted a harsh winter for both Missouri and Illinois. The "original" Farmer's Almanac says not so fast. While their official winter reveal is set for Tuesday, August 30, their map already shows what's in store for Missouri and Illinois. While it's "cold and snowy", it's not "hibernation" like the other showed.

For the sake of comparison, here's the map we shared a few weeks ago from the "new" Farmer's Almanac. Note that it predicts "glacial and snow-filled".

Which should you believe and/or which is more accurate? According to Snow Plow News, the Old Farmers Almanac "uses solar conditions and sunspot activity as a big variable". The Old Farmers Almanac website claims their prediction was 94% correct for last winter.

Tree Hugger says that the new Farmers Almanac "takes into consideration things like sunspot activity, tidal action of the moon, the position of the planets and a variety of other factors". They claim their accuracy is between 80 and 85%.

If the numbers are accurate, perhaps you shouldn't panic about the upcoming winter. The numbers indicate the snow and cold temps may not be as bad as we initially feared.

Now, we wait and see what the reality ends up being.
