Have you ever been to the McBaine Bur Oak Tree? Kudos to Only In Your State for calling attention to this tough Missouri landmark. Last fall, a drone captured up-close video of this tree that is said to be nearly 400 years old according to the National Park Service.
If you're not familiar with where the McBaine Bur Oak Tree is located, it's just to the southwest of Columbia, Missouri.
How tough is the McBaine Bur Oak Tree? Considering the fact that it survived a lightning strike back in October of 2020, it might as well be made of iron.
The National Park Service says this mighty tree's trunk is 287 inches in circumference. They shared a crazy historical fact. When Lewis and Clark traversed the Missouri River nearby, they likely saw this mighty tree back then. At the time of Lewis and Clark, it already would have been 200 years old. Wild historical math.
It's still standing and more than worth the time of a side trip next time you go to Columbia shopping or for a game. If lightning can't take it down, not likely anything else will either in our lifetime.
