10 Most Dangerous Missouri Places Based on Most Recent Data
There are many factors that determine if a city or town in Missouri is dangerous. I've collected the most recent crime data from numerous sources that reveal the places in Missouri that face the worst crime threats.
How was this most dangerous Missouri list compiled?
I searched FBI/NIBRS data, Missouri State Highway Patrol crime data, and recent crime reporting to see where the most dangerous Missouri cities and towns are right now. First, a few thoughts. Even cities with high overall crime rates have many neighborhoods that are relatively safe, while a small number of neighborhoods account for a disproportionate share of violent crime. Missouri's crime is VERY localized. I'm emphasizing that because it's important to remember when you look at this list. The FBI specifically cautions against simplistic city rankings because reporting practices, population size, and local factors vary. All that being said, here's the most dangerous Missouri places list based on the newest numbers.
10 Most Dangerous Missouri Places Based on Most Recent Data
I was honestly very surprised to see several towns on this list. When you're discussing crime in Missouri, you expect to see St. Louis, Kansas City and Springfield on the list. Sedalia and Joplin, not so much. I also want to add that there's no better example of crime being localized in Missouri than St. Louis. My family has been to the big city often and have rarely ever felt in danger, but we also don't go downtown unless we're going to a Cardinals game. The good news for all of Missouri is that crime rates overall have been on the decline. Let's hope it stays that way.
