There is no secret that I am a New York Yankee fan, but what is somewhat of a secret is, what team do I like after that? That secret is now out. It's the Kansas City Royals, the World Series Champions! I am no bandwagon fan, either.

I lived and covered the Royals-Yankees playoffs in the 70s when I lived in Kansas City and have pulled for them ever since. I lived just 10 minutes from the "Royals Stadium" as it was called then (It is now called Kauffman Stadium). So when they won last night, I jumped for joy for a franchise that had not won a World Series in 30 years.

Their win also made me a profit in that I actually predicted they would win it this year. I was wrong about their opponent in that I thought the St. Louis Cardinals would be there. Back in April I made my Major League Baseball picks for 2015 and posted it on this website. Listed below is what I wrote.

“Here are my predictions for 2015. In the National League East, I am picking the Washington Nationals. In the National League Central, I am going with the St. Louis Cardinals. The winner of the National League West will be the upstart San Diego Padres with the wildcards going to the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets. The winner of the National League title will be the Cardinals.

In the American League, I am picking the Baltimore Orioles to win the East with the Kansas City Royals winning the Central and the Seattle Mariners winning the West. The wildcard teams will be the Toronto Blue Jays and the Cleveland Indians. The American League winner again will be the Royals (Please notice I did not pick my beloved Yankees).

The I-70 World Series winner will be "Kansas City.”

Well, the I-70 World Series didn't quite happen, but what did happen was the entire Kansas City area turned blue and it wasn't from holding their breath. I was in Kansas City during the World Series last week and if the leaves on the trees could have turned blue it would have happened. If I thought the city turned blue last week, wait until the huge parade takes place in downtown Kansas City tomorrow.

Thanks Kansas City for playing the game the way it is supposed to be played and congratulations on being World Series Champions. And oh yeah, thanks for making me look good too!
