The Exchange Club’s 1000 Flag ‘Field of Honor’ Goes up Friday
For the fourth straight year the Quincy Exchange Club will present a dramatic "Field of Honor" flag display this Veterans' Day weekend.
A beautiful panorama of red, white and blue will greet visitors at Quincy's Field of Honor Flag Display which will take place this coming Friday, November 10 through 13, at Madison Park in Quincy at 24th and Maine Streets.
The first two years the display was held at the Illinois Veteran's Home grounds but last year construction forced the Exchange Club to move it to John Wood Community College at 48th and Harrison in Quincy. The Exchange Club has since decided to move it to a different location each year. The display, which is free of charge, is a wonderful site during the day, but most people seem to enjoy it more under the lights during the evenings.
Walking amid this dramatic formation of U.S. flags will offer visitors a stirring vista that will create a lasting memory as we honor our veterans. At the conclusion of the display the flags will be used in the "Flags of Honor" neighborhood flag display program. Subscription to have flags posted at individual homes on significant flag flying holidays will be available for only $30 per year.
All are invited to visit the "Field of Honor" display at Madison Park and to support the Quincy Exchange Club in presenting an event that will draw area residents together honoring those who have served us to protect our freedom. The "Field of Honor" flag display event and the "Flags of Honor" neighborhood flag display program promote the display of the Stars and Stripes throughout the Quincy community.
Speaking of "Flags of Honor", if you have someone who would like to purchase a subscription for a Christmas present, the Exchange Club can provide a very nice gift certificate that they can wrap for giving. With 1,000 flags available for subscription, the proceeds will go to the club’s projects - like the recent purchase of the Freedom Gallery at Quincy Senior High School.
In coming years, the Exchange Club would like to be able to put Freedom Shrines or Galleries at the five new elementary schools, as well as Quincy Notre Dame and the all parochial schools.
