The Major League Baseball season begins this Sunday as the St. Louis Cardinals meet the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The historic field is undergoing extensive renovations much like Quincy University Stadium is. Great news for fans of Chicago hockey. The annual NHL Winter Classic, played outdoors in a converted MLB stadium on New Year's Day, will feature the Chicago Blackhawks and the Washington Capitals at National's Park, home of the Washington Nationals. What a way to start the new year!
Last week the Chicago Cubs celebrated the 100th anniversary of Wrigley Field and did so in style. There were all kinds of activities associated with the birthday including a cake that was a replica of Wrigley Field. The 400 pound cake was made at Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey.
