It's always good to pay attention when a winter storm is about to trek through Missouri. It might be more important than ever for the northeastern part of the state where there is wild uncertainty about how much snow will fall and where according to meteorologists.

It is beginning. The weather pattern that will likely see multiple winter storms dump snow on Missouri is upon us. The National Weather Service has just shared a new probability map and it looks like much of Missouri will have at least 5 inches of snow to deal with by the end of the day on Tuesday.

A meteorologist is predicting a potentially wild weather week for Illinois. He says that over the next 10 days, Illinois could see not just one blizzard, but perhaps even two. His explanation why will make you want to stock up on groceries and gas up your vehicle.

I wanted to get ahead of something you're about to hear a lot about if you live in Missouri or Illinois if you haven't already. There are models that show big snow is possible, but you really shouldn't worry much - yet.

When I watch incoming winter weather systems, I keep my eye on trends. Are forecast estimates for snowfalls going up or down? Many times that will tell the tale of how bad a storm will be. The system that will bring snow to parts of Missouri and Illinois this weekend now seems to be trending up, but don't worry.

It appears that parts of Missouri that are desperately in need of moisture will get rain later this week. The only question is how much and will it help the state's dire drought conditions. It looks like there's at least some hope of helpful rain coming.

Summer storms continue to take their toll on Illinois. One part of the state recorded over 500 lightning strikes which may have been responsible for a church that caught fire.

The weekend weather in Missouri was not dull. After storms brought strong winds through much of the state on Saturday, Sunday included more storm clouds that also released a brilliant double rainbow for all to behold.

Normally, being #1 at something is a good thing. That's not true in this case. Surprisingly, Illinois has become the tornado capital of America and the numbers so far in 2023 prove that point.

I will admit that I don't know much about lightning other than I'd prefer to not get struck by any. But, even I know when a video about lightning is captivating and that's definitely the case for upward lightning that was recently captured as it climbed into the sky over St. Louis, Missouri.
