It was only a matter of time before the pattern of severe weather returned to Missouri. New computer models show that supercell storms are about to return to Missouri with a vengeance with a heightened level of awareness needed for the second half of May.

I saw storm chaser extraordinaire Reed Timmer share graphics of supercell development on his social media pages a day or so ago. While his maps are already a tiny bit outdated, the pattern he's talking about that's coming soon is still right on.

Here are the more up-to-date maps from the NIU Department of Geographic and Atmospheric Sciences. This shows a composite of supercell development for next week leading up to Friday, May 13.

The third week looks even more explosive potentially with even more of Missouri and Illinois ripe for supercell storm development.

It's still way too early to start talking about exact days or even specific areas for severe storms over Missouri, but you need to be aware that this relatively calm Spring period we've enjoyed over the past couple of weeks will not last. It looks like the second half of May will go out with a (supercell) bang as far as our weather is concerned.
