34 Years Ago, Stephen King Movie was Filmed Entirely in Missouri
It's not often that Stephen King ventures outside of his home area of Maine for a project, but 34 years ago that happened when one of his thrillers was filmed entirely in Missouri for a very good reason.
Do you remember watching the movie "Sometimes They Come Back" by Stephen King? According to Wikipedia, it debuted on CBS on May 7, 1991.
The main star of the flick was the well-known actor Tim Matheson who has also starred in National Lampoon's Animal House, Fletch and a number of other feature films over the years. The movie was based off of Stephen King's short story of the same name.
Where were the Missouri filming locations?
According to Wikipedia, the entire movie was filmed in Liberty, Missouri and around the Kansas City area while the iconic tunnel scenes were filmed in Rocheport, Missouri.
When all was said and done, "Sometimes They Come Back" was a mild hit and did eventually spawn 2 sequels which went straight to home video in 1996 and 1998.
It was one of those rare movie moments in 1991 when Stephen King was lured out of his home in the northeastern US to small towns in Missouri to put one of his stories to film. It never happened again.
