It's common knowledge that when you choose to drive to or through St. Louis, Missouri, you're taking your life in your hands. Now, there's science to prove that feeling is accurate as the big city was just rated as having some of the worst drivers in America.

The website Consumer Affairs just ranked the worst cities in America when it comes to the natural talents (or lack thereof) of their drivers. Guess who came up in the top 5 of the bad list? Give yourself a cookie if you answered St. Louis, Missouri.

What's so bad about St. Louis, Missouri drivers?

Where should I begin? Let's start with speeding. Over one-third of fatalities in St. Louis are connected to speeding in some way. I can't remember a time when I was driving the speed limit on either 70, 270 or 64 in St. Louis where everyone was blowing past me like I was standing still.

Driving under the influence of alcohol is also something St. Louis unfortunately does often. Here's what Consumer Affairs said about St. Louis and drinking:

The percentage of fatal crashes involving drivers with a positive blood alcohol content also stands out. At 32.39%, that figure is the highest among the cities in the top five on our list.

By the way, "standing out" on their list is not a good thing in this case.

When you factor in the fact that Memphis, Tennessee is #1 in America for bad drivers, it means any trip directly to the south (to New Orleans for example) is a perilous journey fraught with potential driving terror.
