This would have to rank very high on the list of things you never want found near a school. What has been described as "significant radioactive contamination" has been discovered at an elementary school in Missouri.

I first saw this unfortunate news shared by ABC News. CBS News has also reported on this radioactive find. The school in question is Jana Elementary School in the Hazelwood School District in Florissant, Missouri. The report says that samples were taken back in August and the results are just now being made known.

Where Jana Elementary is located just happens to be the same place where nuclear weapons were produced as far back as World War II. KSDK reports that "found in the cafeteria, library, boiler room and areas in the playground".

The video report says that a PTA board meeting will happen on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the school so parents can discuss what will be done to cleanup the school and assure them of their children's safety.

The US Military has a report available online about remediation of nuclear weapons waste in the St. Louis area that was made public back in 1996. It mentions that many communities like St. Louis responded with no hesitation when asked to produce nuclear materials back during World War II. The price of that decision is obviously still being felt today. Now, it's a matter of making sure that children don't pay the price for past mistakes.
