The good news is donuts are almost never under a product recall. Sadly, salad in Illinois is due to a potential fatal infection risk.

This bulletin from the Food and Drug Administration was just issued today and it concerns salad that has been distributed in Illinois through many different channels. What has happened is Russ Davis Wholesale of Wadena, Minnesota learned they had cucumbers contaminated with Salmonella that was a part of salads that were sent to many stores and other food channels in Illinois and several other states.

The FDA alert says these salads were sent to Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

How can you tell if you have a potentially contaminated salad in Illinois?

The FDA says "the product comes in a clear plastic packages of various sizes marked with a 7-digit lot code preceded by an “X” on the top labeling and a sell by or use by date located on the same label."

The government indicated that pictures of the contaminated food labels would be sent out so this article will be updated once that is provided.

Why is Salmonella such a dangerous contamination?

Even for a healthy person, the FDA says Salmonella can cause "fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain". If the infection makes its way into the bloodstream, that's when serious health problems develop. They can even be fatal for young children, the elderly and/or those with weakened immune systems.
