OK, New Madrid Fault, you now have my complete undivided attention. The USGS has confirmed there has been a sudden swarm of 9 quakes over the span of just 4 days.

These are all the confirmed earthquakes in the New Madrid Fault region from November 21 through November 25, 2025. Let's be clear that none of these quakes were even close to damaging or even being felt by many. The largest earthquake on this list happened yesterday, November 24, and only measured a 2.4 magnitude on the Richter Scale.

While I find this sudden uptick of activity interesting, please don't read into this that I'm inferring that a major earthquake is imminent. I understand why some people want to jump to the conclusion that the New Madrid Fault is about to burst. It might be for all I know, but none of us know that for a fact and that includes the USGS. If anything, a series of small quakes could be a GOOD sign for the New Madrid Seismic Zone. Perhaps it's the fault relieving pressure which could even delay the big quake many in Missouri have feared for decades. There simply isn't any sure way to know. I share this new data because I find it interesting and I'm an earthquake nut, not because I want you to believe the end is near. But, that being said, a major quake could happen along the New Madrid any day, so be earthquake aware and have an emergency plan just in case.
