Missourian Sees Odd Star in Big Dipper that Zoomed Away

I'm sure at some time in your life you have admired the Big Dipper in the night sky. What would you think if one of the stars in that constellation suddenly zoomed away? That's what a resident in Missouri said in an official report recently.

The National UFO Reporting Center just shared an eyewitness encounter that was submitted to them from Kinloch, Missouri late in the evening of July 17, 2026. It's key to note that they submitted their report within 15 minutes of what they saw happen in the sky. Here's a snippet from their eyewitness testimony using their exact words:

"My companion and I were looking Northwest toward the constellations of Ursa Major (the Big Dipper) and Polaris (the North Star). We observed an object that looked identically to a bright star sitting perfectly stationary and idle high in the sky.

Suddenly, the object began to rapidly spin or rotate in a tight circle in place for approximately 2 to 3 seconds. Immediately following this circular movement, the object accelerated instantly from a dead stop into a perfectly straight line across the sky until it completely disappeared from view."

In case you're not aware of where Kinloch, Missouri is, it's located in St. Louis County.

Whenever I see a weird sky encounter over Missouri, one of the first things I check is the location to see how close or not it is to major airports or military bases. In this case, Kinloch is obviously not far from the airport in St. Louis and also Scott Air Force Base across the river in Illinois. I'm not saying there's any conventional craft we know about that could explain what they witnessed, but it's at least a consideration.

The other thing I wonder is why there aren't more reports from the St. Louis area if a major UFO event happened that night. There are many who would notice something odd in the sky at that time of night in the big city. I'm not saying they're wrong or that this wasn't a UFO, I'm just asking logical questions.
