The Great River Watercolor Society has announced a new plein-air painting event in Quincy this summer. Shade Tree Mid-Summer Arts Faire will be held on Saturday, July 21. Registration will be $35 on the day of the event or $30 for those who pre-register before Saturday, June 30.

It's been a long time since I painted but when I did I loved using watercolors. Back in high school I was a big Mad Magazine fan so I painted the magazines main man...Alfred E. Newman (pictured above).  So maybe it is time for me to break out my brushes again!

The day-long event will take place on the campus of Quincy University and is open to painters from around the Tri-State area. This is the first annual event, which will become an ongoing summer gathering of plein-air painters. With a considerable cache of awards, and several planned purchase awards, the Shade Tree Paint-Out will give participants multiple chances to collect prizes.

Besides bringing together area painters, the event will be a fundraiser for the Quincy University Alumni Association, Quincy University Art Department and the Great River Watercolor Society. For more information, call 217-228-5432.
