We're in that volatile time of year when just about every weather system that moves through the Midwest has the capability to surprise us with iffy weather. That appears to be the case for parts of Missouri that could see up to 5 inches of snow by next weekend.

I was alerted to this incoming weather for Missouri by a video share from Evan Fryberger earlier today. He was talking about a winter storm that is becoming more concerning as it gets closer and it could impact Missouri starting late Friday, December 13.

The weather model he's concerned about is the GDPS which is a Canadian computer model which shows this band across Missouri where up to 5 inches of snow could fall by Saturday morning, December 14. I confirmed this from models shared by Pivotal Weather which is my go-to weather model map place.

I quizzed my meteorologist wife and she said it looks like some precipitation will start to impact western and northern parts of Missouri where that band appears late Friday afternoon.

For the sake of comparison, the GFS model does NOT show much snowfall in Missouri, but instead points to southern Iowa being hit. My wife emphasized to me that the Canadian model is NOT relied upon as much as the GFS is.

The odd timing is it will happen right after this brief period of warm temperatures before we're impacted by the incoming blast of arctic air later this week.

As with any weather, it's all very changeable, but this weather system is close enough that it bears watching closely.
