There is the chance that you may be able to have your income tax prepared free of charge thanks to a local agency in Quincy. The Internal Revenue Service will be processing over 144 million tax returns this year and most of them will be sent in by the tax deadline of April 17th. Usually it is April 15th, but this year the 15th falls on a Sunday and Monday, the 16th is Emancipation Day, a holiday in Washington, D.C.  If you are one of those people in need of tax assistance there is a place to go to get help with your preparation.  The United Way of Adams County is again providing this service thru their VITA program.  VITA is an acronym for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. If you need help to file your tax return and have earned less than $50,000 last year, you may be eligible for acceptance into the program.  The service, funded by the Adams County United Way and sponsored by the IRS, is free of charge.  To see if you qualify or to make an appointment contact the United Way office at 222-5020 or email vita@unitedwayadamsco.org.
