I hate uttering the words "tax day", but that's what April 15 is so we might as well face the music. However, there are many great Missouri charities that would be a better place for your money to end up than the government.

There are multitudes of great organizations that do amazing work making life in Missouri better especially for those facing challenges or sad situations. To state the obvious, there are more than 10 super Missouri charities that you could give to, but since I have a 2nd grade education-level mind, I'll keep it at 10. I've had great experiences with all of these hard-working groups.

Humane Society of Missouri

When it comes to Missouri people that make sure animals are cared for, I don't know any better than the Humane Society. Their tireless rescues of animals is vital in Missouri especially considering the state sadly continues to be the top place for evil puppy mills.

Salvation Army of Missouri

"Doing the most good" is not just the motto of the Salvation Army, but they walk the talk. My family was one of those affected by tornadoes that ravaged out Missouri town years ago and the Salvation Army was the first organization at the door with a warm meal. I've never forgotten their kindness and I see them constantly caring for the uncared for in our area.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Missouri

With so many broken homes in Missouri, the need is greater than ever for those who can stand in that gap and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Missouri has been doing that for a very long time.

Second Harvest Community Food Bank

Food security is a real every day problem for too many in Missouri and Second Harvest is just one of many food banks doing incredible work to help those who are hungry not be. Find any local Missouri food bank and support them and you'll be making one of the biggest differences possible in family's lives. Harvesters Community Food Network in the Kansas City area is another.

American Red Cross of Missouri

If you've ever been the victim of a house fire, you have no doubt seen the American Red Cross show up to offer assistance. They are on the front lines for nearly every catastrophe or disaster and deserve support.

Boys and Girls Club of Missouri

If a family in Missouri needs a safe and affordable place for after-school and summer camp activities, the Boys and Girls Club of Missouri is a vital option. They are another one of the organizations that's been around for decades and continues to step up in an area of great need.

Haven House in St. Louis

Haven House in St. Louis offers families lodging if they are receiving medical care in the big city.

Habitat for Humanity in Missouri

If you've seen volunteers building homes in Missouri for those that have none, it's more than likely been Habitat for Humanity. They have been doing their great work as long as I've been alive and (breaking news) that is a very long time.

Ronald McDonald Houses of Missouri

I've lost count of how many families I know that have had to stay at a Ronald McDonald House in Missouri when their kids need medical care. Just like Haven House, it's the one service you hope you never need, but are so thankful it's there when you do.

Saint Louis Zoo Organization

Many don't know that the St. Louis Zoo is a non-profit organization. The fact that there's no entry fee at the St. Louis Zoo is made possible by donors from around the state.
