Forecasters Warn of Explosive Storms in Missouri Monday
The never-ending pattern of severe thunderstorm development over Missouri looks to continue early next week as forecasters warn of another round of explosive supercells being possible.
As of the date of this writing, parts of Missouri are expected to see severe thunderstorms later today. Today will likely be mild compared to what the meteorologists say is in store for Missouri at the start of next week. The NOAA Storm Prediction Center just shared an enhanced 30% risk over nearly all of Missouri for Monday, April 27, 2026.
The forecasters at the Storm Prediction Center said that within that 30% orange area "All severe hazards will remain possible". They said that the energy in the atmosphere will be very conducive to supercell development. My wife who is also a meteorologist added more details:
"High dew points, CAPE and shear will make all types of severe storms possible and likely for that orange area on Monday, a cold front will make sure that storms are able to form and there will be a northern extent where above the warm front there will be significant rain and storms will be limited north of that"
Digital meteorologist Ryan Hall also has Missouri in the middle of the most likely area for severe storm development Monday.
The bottom line is that you need to be weather-aware if you live in the advisory area within Missouri Monday. The chance of storms should start to escalate in the later afternoon hours and continue into the nighttime. It's another example of that seemingly endless pattern of severe thunderstorm possibilities over Missouri every 4 or 5 days during the Spring months.
