The sightings of mysterious creatures in the Missouri woods have been happening for decades and seem to be increasing lately. However, there are a collection of encounters of a Bigfoot-like creature that stand above the rest as the most infamous in the state's history and it's time to revisit what happened over a series of days during that era.

It was a hot summer night in the middle of July of 1972 when three children near Louisiana, Missouri said they saw something bizarre. Three Harrison children—Doris (15), Terry (8), and Wally (5), claimed they saw a massive creature that stood between 7 and 8 feet tall. According to the Horror Collection, the beast had a foul odor and was holding a deceased dog. This was not just one isolated sighting as another man reported seeing the same creature near a creek in the area.

Just four days later, there was another sighting very close to the area where the Harrison children had seen a beast. The Bigfoot Field Research Organization has the chilling details of the July 15, 1972 encounter in Pike County, Missouri. The eyewitness said "it stood close to eleven foot tall and was covered with thick matted reddish brown hair" and it was coming straight at them. The person said the creature walked over a four-foot high barbed wire fence without even touching it. They continued to flee to a nearby farm, but say the farmer wouldn't open the door when they pounded on it. They said there were dogs that pursued the creature, but it let out blood-curdling screams as it ran off into the woods.

There were several reports in Pike County, Missouri during 1972 of a strange creature and that's why they have made this era the most famous for Bigfoot sightings in Missouri. It wasn't just one isolated report from one individual, but reports from multiple communities of something huge that was existing in the woods around them.
