In case you haven't heard, Texas is one of the top choices for Missouri residents when they decide to move out of state. However, there are 5 things every Missourian should be warned about before they make the jump to the Lone Star State.

It was just a couple days ago that I shared new moving data that shows more than 10,000 Missouri residents moved to Texas in the most recent full year. Don't get me wrong. I love Texas, but there are some things that my fellow Missourians should really think through before they make the jump to the south.

1. You won't completely escape winter in Texas

It is true that you're more likely to have warmer temperatures during the winter months in Texas compared to Missouri, but Texas does get a few winter storms each year and it can get seriously cold. Just ask any Texan about Winter Storm Uri in 2021 and the snow and cold temps it brought with it.

2. The Texas power grid is iffy

Texas has become known in recent years for having somewhat frequent power outages. The Texas power grid has had its share of problems during the summer months when the heat is on and during cold winter moments, too.

3. If you're worried about border security when you lived in Missouri, just wait until you move to Texas

I have heard my share of Missouri friends complaining about issues with the border. I am not a political person, but I will tell you that if you were worried about that topic while living in Missouri, you'll get to experience it up front and personal in Texas.

4. Don't go to Texas if you have arachnophobia

I have counted nearly 30 species of spiders that call Texas home. Yes, you will see tarantulas frequently there. Remember the 1977 William Shatner movie "Kingdom of the Spiders"? That's Texas.

5. Texas drivers are next-level scary

I think even my most loyal Texas friends would say "that sounds about right". Texas has just been ranked as one of America's most dangerous states to drive in.

I am not saying don't move to Texas. My family has considered it and I still think the pros largely outweigh the cons. Just know what you're getting into before you leave Missouri to become a cowboy.
