It would appear that the Missouri State Police are taking their law enforcement efforts to a new level as they have just unveiled a special forces team called "STORM" that is already hot on the trail of villains.

What is the Missouri State Police STORM unit?

The press release from the Missouri State Police says this special forces unit includes 23 highly-trained officers with "diverse expertise" including "impaired driving enforcement, hazardous moving specialists, interdiction officers, and motorcycle officers". Some of these STORM units will include canine officers. These STORM units in Missouri hit the streets on September 1, 2025 and have already had some impressive results. Here are numbers just shared by the Missouri State Police:

  • 72 Traffic Stops
  • 89 Warnings
  • 5 Speed Citations
  • 14 Hazardous Moving Citations
  • 27 Non-Moving Citations
  • 18 Misdemeanor Arrests
  • 12 Felony Arrests
  • 1 Firearm Seized

It's no secret that illegal street takeover events have become a big problem for several locations in Missouri including St. Louis and Kansas City. You can expect that these special forces units will be involved in shutting those down moving forward.

Will these elite Missouri State Police units be able to make a difference in rising crime rates in the state?

Based on the numbers they've shared just since the start of September, it looks like the STORM units are already making an impact. If they can figure out a method to shut down the increasingly dangerous street scenes in the metro areas of Missouri, all the better.
