Both Missouri and Illinois have had a very mild winter so far especially as far as temperatures are concerned. That's about to change big time this weekend as both states will see the thermometer nosedive to well below zero and it's likely to stay there for awhile.

There are no fringe computer models predicting the sudden temperature drop in Missouri and Illinois. This is the current forecast from the National Weather Service in St. Louis. It will be plenty cold by Friday when the next storm system moves through the Midwest, but look at Saturday and Sunday night. Shiver.

I wish I could say "but just wait until next week when it will be warmer again", but nope. High for Monday will only be 7 (if we're lucky). Sigh.

All of this agrees with what the Farmer's Almanac predicted for us weeks ago as they said "Lots of cold temperatures and some storms will keep folks in the South Central States busy during the middle of January.". Shut up, Farmer's Almanac. Bah humbug.
