Missouri Faces Severe Storm Threat After Dangerous Heat

This is the perfect example of a cloud having a silver lining. National Weather Service forecasters have now added a sudden severe storm threat to Missouri for Monday, but there's some good news that will happen as a result of that.

Let's start with the heat. Missouri is under a heat advisory right now through tonight according to the National Weather Service in St. Louis. The heat index in some parts of Missouri could hit as high as 108 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, the meteorologists have added a severe storm element to Monday weather as the NWS forecasters just issued this alert:

"Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible over parts of northeast Missouri and west central Illinois after midnight tonight. The primary threats are damaging winds, large hail, and locally heavy rainfall."

Note that if storms do develop over the northern half of Missouri, they're expected to be scattered and isolated. After the storms potentially impact northeastern Missouri, there will be at least one more day of heat.

What about the good news part of this forecast?

After the storms make their way across Missouri, temperatures will tumble down by the middle of the week as highs over much of Missouri are expected to be in the low 80's for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. That will give the state a respite from the intense heat of the past week. All we need to do is tolerate some potential severe weather late Monday night before we get some relief from the heat.
