Fall Migration Brings Thousands of Hummingbirds to Missouri
My mother-in-law loved hummingbirds which is one of the reasons why have kept a feeder near our home whenever they're around. That time is especially now in Missouri as hummingbirds are starting to make their way south for the colder weather months and Missouri is right in the path for these fascinating birds.
There is no exact date when hummingbirds begin to migrate southward in the Fall
Hummingbird Central says that around the start of September, something in a hummingbird's instincts will kick in and alert them that it's time to migrate south before the cold weather hits. If you look at their hummingbird sighting map, you'll see that Missouri already is seeing more hummingbirds than ever.
There is reason to believe that Missouri will see the huge influx of hummingbirds sooner this Fall than previous years
As I've shared recently, Missouri and the Midwest overall are starting to see blasts of cold air from the north which some believe signals an early Fall. That burst of cold could trigger the hummingbird's migration instincts into action sooner rather than later.

It's common to see larger numbers of hummingbirds in Missouri during September as this is right along the path to their winter habitat in Mexico and South America. That's why if you love hummingbirds like my family does, be on the lookout for the next couple of weeks before these tiny birds disappear until next Spring.
